Jenny Cross is the founding director of Cross Productions and editor of Niche, its magazine.
After “falling” into a marketing role at the age of 18, Jenny has nearly 20 years’ marketing experience, working with businesses and organisations which have included everyone from SMEs through to the local government.
Having seen the challenges many businesses face as marketing opportunities and trends frequently grow and change, Jenny’s passion is in taking a marketing budget and helping clients make better use of it. She works by breaking down their budget and re-investing it so that clients gain a stronger marketing presence and a much-improved return on their investment. Jenny’s main role is in consultancy where she coordinates and implements strategic marketing plans for businesses, focusing on their goals, ambitions and values, and managing expectations.
As a “people person” Jenny is a natural networker who leads from the front. Happy to get stuck in, Jenny has led the team to win numerous awards for networking and engagement within the Leicester business community. She was named regional winner in the Forward Ladies, Women in Business Awards 2015 sponsored by HSBC and shortlisted as a finalist in Forward Ladies 2018.
This year has also seen Jenny recognised as sector lead for marketing, communications and business support as part of the Leicester Business Festival, the UK’s second largest business festival. Jenny has thoroughly enjoyed communicating, coordinating and working alongside some of the city’s most successful and respected businesses as part of the event.
Always keen to extend her skill set, she is currently on a professional coaching course at Leicester Castle Business School.
With more than 12 years’ experience in marketing, our sales director Sally Smith is one of life’s natural networkers.
Sally relishes getting out into the business community and if she’s not busy networking she can often be found out to tea with clients.
One of Sally’s marketing passions is LinkedIn and she excels at showing other business-people how to make the most of the global professional networking platform.
From optimising a client’s profile, to training a team on how to use LinkedIn to generate more business, Sally is your go-to girl.
So, if you’re serious about growing your business, and you make a good cup of tea, Sally will come over with the biscuits. From providing you with a strategic overview, through to implanting an action plan, Sally can help and will become your business’s one-stop marketeer.
Working with a diverse range of clients across Leicestershire, Leanne is responsible for overseeing Finance, Human Resources and Production.
Leanne also represents the company at networking and corporate events and plays a pivotal role in organising Cross Productions’ flagship event each year, the Niche Business Awards.
As design editor at Cross Productions, Susan designs Niche Magazine as well as brochures, branding and marketing materials for a variety of companies.
She has worked in the design industry for the past 18 years, and loves creating and developing ideas to make things look good.
Before moving back to Leicester, Susan worked at BBC Worldwide in London on magazines such as BBC Music Magazine and Gardeners World Magazine. She also designed supplements for Good Food Magazine.
Susan was in London for 13 years and gained a lot of experience working for publishing companies and design agencies.
She said: “Cross is great for me as I get to use this experience on the many projects we take on.”
Before completing her NVQ Level 2 in Marketing , Becci Houlston chose to begin a career in marketing after studying her A-levels. Joining Team Cross in November 2018, Becci brings fresh knowledge and a creative outlook on all things Digital Marketing; from social media content to design and blogging.
Having a variety of clients under her wing has helped Becci to establish her own marketing style, whilst staying true to each company’s goals. Jumping straight into the world of work has been Becci’s greatest advantage: being able to learn as she works in real time.
She says: “The idea of marketing started as my three favourite subjects combined, now a few years into my career I couldn’t be happier! I love taking my clients visions and using the knowledge from my apprenticeship and further studies to make them a reality.”
Emily’s passion is people; talking to new people is, she says, without doubt the best part of her job.
As a journalist Emily loves finding out what makes someone tick and then capturing that on the page. For her, the more different, the better; she finds discovering the ‘real person’ behind the job title fascinating.
Emily has been a writer for over a decade and, in that time, says she has been lucky enough to have met and worked with some truly inspiring people, both in her colleagues and the clients she writes for.
She adds: “Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good story. I like to think it’s more out of an interest in people rather than me being plain nosy!”

As a freelance journalist for the past few years, Lauren enjoyed writing about a vast array of topics, from reviews, interviews to YouTube scripts and blog posts.
